PRETORIA / JOHANNESBURG — South Africa's Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced the commissioning of 3,400 megawatts of newly synchronized wind, solar PV, and battery storage capacity.
The milestone marks a key delivery under the $8.5 billion Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). In former coal hubs like Komati and Hendrina, decommissioned thermal stations have been transformed into clean manufacturing training hubs, where certified technicians now fabricate solar mounts and balance-of-system hardware for domestic installation.
