DAKAR, Senegal — The Great Green Wall for the Sahara and Sahel Initiative (GGWSSI) has crossed a watershed ecological benchmark, according to joint monitoring data released by the Pan-African Great Green Wall Agency.
Over 350,000 green jobs have been created across eleven participating countries. Local cooperative women's syndicates in Senegal, Niger, and Chad now manage sustainable gum arabic, moringa, and baobab harvesting networks that generate reliable year-round export revenue.
"This is living proof that Africa is not merely a victim of global climate disruption, but the cradle of planetary ecological restoration solutions," noted Dr. Mariam Diallo, lead environmental scientist for the project.
